Coral Gardener experience

A 2 Days program to learn how to maintain a coral nursery and participate in a coral transplant. Each diver can transplant they own coral!

This 2 Days course is an introduction to coral gardening. During the 4 dives, you will have the opportunity to visit and learn how to maintain the coral nursery, and transplant some corals fragments from the nursery. 

Coral Gardening experience program :

DAY 1

Morning
Dive Briefing including buoyancy techniques for coral nursery maintenance
Dive boat trip with 2 dives on the coral nurseries including buoyancy exercises and nursery cleaning (depending on participant levels)

Afternoon
Presentation about corals, threats, coral nurseries, asexual and sexual assisted reproduction, our participation in Fundemar’s coral restoration program.
Training session on land to transplant coral

DAY 2

Morning
Transplantation Briefing
Dive boat trip with 2 dives : During the first dive we will collect fragments, we will transport the fragments on the boat, and the second dive we will transplant the fragments on the reef with different methods (depending on our needs and on the participant level). We will evaluate and measure all transplanted fragment. Each diver can plant their own fragment.

2 Days
Minimum certificacion: Open Water or equivalent

• 4 dives (max 4 people per guide), during which you will practice buoyancy techniques, help maintaining a coral nursery and plant your own fragment of coral on the reef or on a nursery structure
• Special briefing for coral gardening, presentation about coral restoration and practice on land
• Diving equipment and specific coral restoration equipment
• Drinks and snacks on the boat

Not included

• Transportation from/to your hotel outside Bayahibe (Dominicus: + 20 US$ per group up to 8 people, both ways, Punta Cana: + 180 US$ per group up to 8 people, both ways.
